We live just across the George Washington Bridge from Manhattan. We love the proximity of our home to New York City. Especially on a sunny Saturday morning like today. We were parked in midtown 20 minutes after leaving our house. Finding free on-street parking near Alvin Ailey Dance Studios made the trip into the city seem even more effortless.
Our weekly Pilates class, and being in Manhattan, always energizes us.
We enjoy the view down 9th Ave. from the corner of the Pilates studio.
After class we treated ourselves to breakfast at the Morning Star on 57th St. We haven’t been there since it was remodeled.
Breakfast was good. But our waitress was the real star.
We learned a little more about Roula each time she visited our table. Roula is Greek and was feeling bruised by disparaging comments made by European politicians about how the people of her country are dealing with its economic woes.
When I made the comment that the Greeks introduced civilization to the Western World, Roula told me she loved me and kissed me on the cheek.
Driving home across our bridge, I had a few thoughts about our morning:
1)how fortunate we are to live so close to Manhattan
2)New York City can be a very friendly place
3)the specials aren’t always on the menu
live. enjoy. repeat.
