Little Visitor

firefly

We had a bug in the house yesterday morning.

When I mentioned our first firefly sighting of the season the other day (see June 9 posting) I had to use a borrowed image. As a result of looking for that image, I was able to immediately recognise our little visitor as a firefly. Not because it was glowing (I assume they don’t bother to glow during the daytime), but because of its distinctive red head. It was very cool to be able to examine one of these light producing marvels up close.

I’m not sure how he or she found its way inside, but I figured it would be happier outside. So, after a quick photo session I picked it up with a tissue, opened a window, and released it into the back garden.
