Goals for renovation of this circa 1930’s home:
1. increase openness and flow between kitchen, dining, and living rooms
2. update and optimize kitchen
3. maintain charm
Increasing the size of the openings and adding trim transformed the formerly small passageways to the living room (see photo below) into gracious openings between spaces.
However, the biggest transformation was in the small kitchen space.
Previously, the view to the stair and living room was blocked by a refrigerator.

BEFORE
We envisioned how to open up the space and expose the stairway (relocating the refrigerator was key).
A large opening to the dining room is bookended by the refrigerator on one end and a wine bar (facing the dining room) on the other…
achieving ease of access, new amenities, and good flow (where previously the dining room had been walled off from the kitchen).

BEFORE
As Dan’s initial concept sketch illustrated,
sight lines to the living room and dining rooms afforded by the new design…
would raise potential for more family interactions.
