Radish Rave

When I visited the allotment today I was expecting the radish crop would be finished. I was pleased to find this isn’t the case.

The radishes are still good, despite the temperature dropping below freezing and the snowfall in the past week.

Dan and I have enjoyed a steady supply of radish for over a month.

After a quick trim and wash they are ready to eat.

Our favourite way to serve them is with hummus.

We’ve shared our radish appetizers with friends to rave reviews. People comment on how good they taste and are surprised to learn how easily they grow this time of year.

Until now I never ate many radishes. I didn’t know how much I like them (I even eat the green tips) and how good they are for you. Apparently they are rich in anti-oxidants, electrolytes, minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber.

Dan has become a radish fan too. The appeal of the radish seems to be growing around here.

As our radish supply starts to dwindle we’re hoping carrots will soon take their place on our appetizer platter. Judging by the scrawny carrot I pulled today, we have a ways to go.
